Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage

This September will mark the 50th Anniversary since Star Trek debuted on network television back in September of 1966.  For "Trekkies" young and old, this year will bring a variety of events to celebrate the anniversary including Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage - a 50th Anniversary Concert Tour.

Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage is a symphonic celebration of the music from Star Trek accompanied by scenes from the TV shows and movies.  Star Trek had ample material to choose from having over 700 television episodes, 5 televisions series, and 12 films! My husband, Geoff, and I were lucky enough to be able to attend this celebration at Durham Performing Arts Center near our home in North Carolina.   The live orchestra performed perfectly and were accompanied by video clips as shown on a high definition 40 foot wide screen.

While I, like many others, grew up watching Star Trek, I am not an avid fan nor am I a Trekkie, but the performance was more than enjoyable and very nostalgic.  Geoff, who has seen every episode of the television shows and every movie, absolutely loved the show.   I was surprised at how many songs I actually recognized and it was entertaining to see the video clips showing the different characters throughout the years.  Whether you’re a new fan of the Chris Pine Captain Kirk era, or your first crush was on the one and only William Shatner portraying Captain Kirk, this is a fun performance not to be missed.

Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage is showing in over 100 cities nationwide this year. Visit their website to see when the symphonic celebration will be in your area.  Other celebrations to commemorate the anniversary include a Star Trek official stamp by the U.S. Post Office, Star Trek 50 Years: 50 Artists exhibit will be at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, a 50th anniversary convention in August in Las Vegas, and of course this July will be the release of the latest movie, Star Trek Beyond.
