POWER MAN IRON FIST 02

Everybody's talking Iron Fist, so I will, too, with a little bit of Power Man added in.

After being underwhelmed by much of Marvel Comics' output over the last couple of years, David Walker and Sanford Greene's take on POWER MAN & IRON FIST was not so much a breath of fresh air, but a return to what it was that made Marvel magic.

POWER MAN IRON FIST VOL 1

I very much enjoyed POWER MAN & IRON FIST VOL. 1: THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN. Writer David Walker and artists Sanford Greene and Flaviano masterfully blended a mix of earnest humor with grindhouse action. My only real exposure to Walker's writing prior to this outing was his SHAFT mini-series from Dynamite. His work here is vast improvement. Walker nails the dynamic that has made Luke Cage and Danny Rand such a loveable pair all these years and propels it into a modern era. Sanford Greene's blend of animation and graffiti is on full display and a perfect fit for the tone of this book. Flaviano picks up Greene's ball and runs with it quite well.

The story is a classic caper that blends in the mystical and "blaxploitation" elements of which our titular heroes were borne. You get Tombstone, Black Mariah, Jessica Jones, old friends, new friends, and all kinds of enemies of the natural and supernatural variety. There's a lot to like here. Do yourself a favor and pick this up.
