normally I am a fan of reboots, but this trailer missed the mark. Interestingly enough, the last reboot to also miss its mark in a quest for PG-13 banality was Total Recall. Both originals directed by Paul Verhoeven.

Those movies were good because of the camp and the way they relished in their R ratings. This new robocop seems rather safe, I will most likely will wait until its on TBS some sunday afternoon.

    Reboots are definitely a concern.

The joy of the first RoboCop movie was indeed the over-the-top violence & low-budget, grindhouse feel. The policeman dying due to excessive street violence was very poignant.

It doesn't look like we'll be getting any of that in this PG-13 version, with Murphy being gravely harmed by a car bomb rather than a mass shooting.

So, in that sense, this new RoboCop has already failed.

But, taken on its own, as a whole new take using just the basic idea of man meets machine? Who knows? This could be a sci-fi epic. I just have no expectation that this will maintain the feel of the original. I'll stick with DREDD for that.
