SDCC 2014

San Diego Comic-Con International is one of the biggest events on the planets. If you weren't able to get in to the 2014 show, no worries, we've got all the major comic book highlights right here!

The two biggest movie announcements were the first image of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, along with a new look at Ben Affleck as Batman, both from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice...

They also showed a brief teaser for the film. While the official video has not been released, a leaked version hit the web soon after...

Another big reveal was Marvel Studios' Avengers; Age of Ultron character poster featuring Vision!

Marvel Comics has six issues of a new Captain America digital comic all debuting at once. There's a Spider-Verse Team-Up mini-series coming along with Scarlet Spiders. Kieron Gillen And Marguerite Bennett are teaming up to write Angela: Asgard’s Assassin. The new Captain America will join The Mighty Avengers by Al Ewing and Luke Ross. In a major Star Wars announcement, Marvel's bringing us three new series starting in January with John Cassaday, Jason Aaron, Mark Waid, Terry Dodson, and more. Hasbro Toys are going to star in some variant covers soon. I'm happy to hear a new Spider-Woman series is on the way with Dennis Hopeless and Greg Land. John Layman and Javier Garron are taking over Cyclops. There's a new S.H.I.E.L.D. comic from Mark Waid bringing the TV series characters into the Marvel Comics Universe.

DC Comics is bringing Harlan Ellison's lost Batman episode to the Batman ’66 comic series. Grant Morrison debuted a map of the DC Multiverse. Fan-favorites Tansmetropolitan and Y: The Last Man are going to get Absolute Editions. Neal Adams' Batman stories and Walt Simonson’s New Gods series are going to be collected in hardcover. DC also debuted some pieces of art from upcoming Multiversity series...

A lot of new titles coming from Image too, as announced during their SDCC14 Image Expo:

Rick Remender’s Tokyo Ghost with Sean Murphy and Matt Hollingsworth.

From Under Mountains by Claire Gibson, Sloane Leong and Marian Churchland.

Valhalla Mad by Joe Casey and Paul Maybury.

Rumble by John Arcudi and James Harren.

Intersect by Ray Fawkes.

The Humans by Keenan Marshal Keller and Tom Neely.

Kinski And Invisible Republic by Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko.

Injection by Warren Ellis, Declan Shavey and Jordie Bellaire.

Teenage Witchblade from Matt Hawkins and Stejpan Sejic.

IDW's switching things up a bit: No more Doctor Who, but they now have Orphan Black. They'll also be bringing us new Artist's Editions of Jack Kirby’s Mister Miracle and Eric Powell’s The Goon. Angry Birds and The Transformers will meet in a crossover. Speaking of crossovers, the Star Trek crew will be landing on the Planet Of The Apes. And, quite fittingly, Peter Bagge will be working on a Garbage Pail Kids comic.

Dynamite came out with guns blazing: Vampirella: Feary Tales, a new anthology mini-series from Nancy Collins, Gail Simone, Devin Grayson and more. Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson novels are going to be adapted. There a new Evil Ernie coming just in time for Halloween. Sherlock Holmes is going to take on Harry Houdini. Some big news: Will Eisner’s The Spirit has jumped over to Dynamite now. Ron Marz will write John Carter: Warlord Of Mars. Gail Simone will be writing a Women Of Dynamite crossover series. There's a Masks II on the way with Cullen Bunn.  Army Of Darkness #1992.1 is on the way, set in the year of the movie. Finally, the Lone Ranger gets a new #1 from a new writer in Jonah Hex's Justin Grey.

In the Dark Horse world, we've got Jim Zub replacing Brian Wood on the Conan/Red Sonja crossover. There's a new Hellboy and the B.P.R.D series coming from Mike Mignola and Alex Maleev. Pastaways, a new series by Matt Kindt and Scott Kolins. And surprising everyone: Fight Club 2 is coming to Dark Horse by Chuck Palahniuk and Cameron Stewart

Neil Gaiman is reviving Lady Justice, Teknophage and Mr. Hero at Papercutz Super Genius. And Avatar Press has new books coming from the likes of Alan Moore (Providence), Max Brooks (Extinction Parade), Max Bemis (Crossed), and Justin Jordan (Dark Gods). Valiant will be bringing us Archer & Armstrong: The One Percent this November by Ray Fawkes and Joe Eisma. And, in some pretty big news, comiXology has announced DRM-free backups of purchased comics from certain publishers!
