MightyVille: Thanks for talking to us today, Eric. We appreciate it.

Eric Canete: Sure, it’s my pleasure.

Can you talk to us about some of your creative influences?

Sure. When it comes to action stuff, it’s definitely Peter Chung, who created and directed on Aeon Flux. Paul Smith was a huge influence on me growing up when it comes to sequential storytelling. He’s the guy that did Leave it to Chance. When I was introduced to his work, it was Uncanny X-Men. And I like a lot of what Mike Mignola has been doing. He’s a massive, massive influence on me when it comes to mood and compositioning. And most recently, I would have to go with Claire Wendling, who is a French artist who I was introduced to. People kept telling me that I draw women ugly, so I copied everything that Claire draws, and I got better at it ... I hope.

Do you have any rituals that get you in the creative mood before you start your work?

I am motivated by the fact that I only have 24 hours in my day. So my ritual is like, “OK, we’re wasting time, let’s go!” Facebook-- and Twitter and Instagram-- doesn't help any of that. But I try to stay as studious as possible.

Who are some of your favorite characters to draw?

Oh, you know ... um, I don’t necessarily have a favorite character; it’s just whatever comes to me. Sometimes it can be super high-tech, sometimes it can be, you know, sword and sorcery. But anything that really makes me feel like I’m accomplishing a specific something that I’m trying to go for. Sometimes it’s armor, sometimes it’s grass, sometimes it’s ... you know?

What comics are you reading right now that you’re enjoying?

Right now ... it’s really bad. Because I work with a group of people from Essential Sequential, so the comics I read are the guys that do stuff for here. So ... everything from The Wake by Sean Gordon Murphy, to Saga by Fiona Staples ... Mateo Scalara’s doing stuff...

That’s not a bad selection right there!

[Laughs] Yeah, I think I’m getting a good selection.

What do you have coming up that our readers can look for?

By way of comic books, nothing in the immediate future...

You do some video game design, right?

That’s right. I work for a company, Riot Games. They put out a game called League of Legends that I worked on. And that’s been my nine-to-five.

All right, I only have one more question: That gorgeous Iron Men print ... do you still have any?? I want one!

Thank you very much!
