Welcome to an all-new, regular feature here on MightyVille: Great Moments in Comic Book History! Each week, we'll take a look at a single panel from a critical comic book, in no particular order, and highlight the future impact of that magnificent occurrence.

This week, we're looking at the debut of Team Youngblood in Youngblood (Volume 1) #1!

In all honesty, the Youngblood titles have never made much of a critical or long-term impact on the industry. They are poised for a 25th anniversary next year though, so who knows? However, the release of Youngblood #1 in 1992 in and of itself is a critical moment in the modern chapter of comics, insomuch that it literally changed the comic book business. The creative freedom that writers and artists enjoy in comics today owes a lot to not just the release of this issue, but also the fact that it launched the Image Comics Empire.

So, the next time you're thinking of giving Rob Liefeld a hard time for his comic book artistic contributions, think about all the independent comics you love today. And then realize that you probably would not be reading them if it wasn't for Youngblood #1.

Youngblood (Volume 1) #1, April 1992. Written by Rob Liefeld and Hank Kanalz and drawn by Liefeld.
